'cannot save plan file'

I had the same problem after updating java.

I deleted java and went back to the recommended java version and everything went back to normal.

see this page for the correct java version for your archicad:
http://www.graphisoft.com/downloads/java.html

OS X won't let you install an older version of java so you have to manually delete it.
To do so open and terminal and enter these two commands:
sudo rm -fr /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
sudo rm -fr /Library/PreferencesPanes/JavaControlPanel.prefpane

DON'T REBOOT

then install the correct java version given by the first link.

you should then be able to save you file as usual.

Archicad Navigator Greek Fonts

In Archicad 20, Tabs names which come from Layouts which Title is in Greek are presented with question marks.
If .pln file is first created on Windows AC20 and then this file is opened on Mac AC20 I have the above problem.

The same thing is happening with AC19.

ArchiCAD 19 crashing when changing the surface material

ArchiCAD 19 constantly crashes when I try to change the surface material for an object. It has happened both in 2D and 3D views, as well as when I try to pick a surface in Surface Settings.

Is anyone else having this problem?

3d view w/marquee not working...

I have modeled a large three story building that was built in 1912. Placed a marquee around the site/building, but it only comes up with a closeup of some window and will not let me zoom out/in, or rotate anything....WHAT HAPPENED...Am working in AC18, this file was on box.net and when downloaded, this is what happened....no control...

my question is: did the file somehow lock itstelf so I can't work anymore...

I rebooted, restarted AC18, reopened the file...same ...somehow the program doesn't want to work.

Hi,
Recently I've had to install ArchiCAD 16 64bits in a new machine, I'm not sure but I think that there's a bug in this version in pop-up menus. Everytime I selected some object from workspace (wall, text, boards, objects, everything) to apply commands like move, rotate, extend and so on, the pop-up menu it seems run away from the screen or sometimes it simple desapears. Please, what's going on? It has been terrible for work production.

I think what you are referring to is the Pet Palette. Its behavior can be modified under Work Environment > User Preference Schemes > Dialog Boxes and Palettes > Pet Palette movement.

You should add a Signature to your Profile (click the Profile button near the top of this page) with your ArchiCAD version and operating system (see mine for an example) for more accurate help in this forum.

Frequent crashes after installing the latest AMD Card driver

I have an AMD R9 380 video card and I have installed the most recent driver for that card which came out after your post. I still have the same problem of the system crashing when trying to work in the 3D window. It usually occurs when trying to perform a zoom in/out operation. What happens is the graphic card crashes and then recovers but Archicad just hangs (needs a restart using Windows task manager. Luckily I have not lost any data or work when it happens but it is frustrating to work this way. I contacted AMD myself and they said they would look into any work that was or has been done regarding this issue (still waiting for a reply). Also note that uninstalling Plays TV and Raptr which are installed with the AMD drivers does not solve the problem. I am wondering if the size of the file has any bearing on this problem as well. When the file was small as the project was very simple but eventually the project has become very big and complex and that is when the problem became an issue. So without a solution at the moment using Archicad is next to impossible. I have attached the bug report file that Archicad generated the last time. Has there been any updated info yet?

Kind of same kind of crash happened to me too a couple of days ago, though in AC19.

You might find a resolution from your library folder:
/users/username/library/preferences/MAXON/cinerender#xxxxx/illum/
or depending when or why you crashed the answer might hide in some other folder downward that MAXON hierarchy.

I tried to stop rendering with the stop button in AC19 (the red x icon). It didn't work. At that monent an endless mass-storage writing loop initiated itself. My mass storage was about to fill up quickly, so I had to force-quit AC19 and its rendering engine. My mass storage was not recovered to its earlier state. I had only little left.

So I sought thoroughly, and found out, that there was this one huge file, in size of tens of gigabytes, in the ../prefs/MAXON/ hierarchy. I deleted the file. I tested AC19 rendering. It worked fine. I emptied the trash, and all of that 60GB's came all available to me again.

ps. with newest OSX varieties you need to use "GO TO FOLDER" to get in to your library folder in finder (cmd-shift-G).

i have the same problem.

We have a problem with the Esc. Fct. with the teamwork project in Archicad 20.
When i start using a function like translation or another, is it impossible to use Esc key for cancelling function.
The only possibility is right click -> cancel.

The most strange in this story is that i have realised some test.

xxx.pln -> the ECHAP function work correclty
xxx.pln sharing in bim server -> don't work correclty
bim server extract projet to place xxx.pln on desktop -> work correclty again

few test later, i'm sure that the problem is when the project is shared in the bim server. Hope GRAPHISOFT will make a patch for this problem.


the Esc function doesn't work only when a fct is launched.
so

if i select a line fort exemple.
I use ESC -> unselect so it's ok.

if i select a line, i launch the translation. but "oh finaly i don't want to do it" Wink
Esc don't work

Tips: when i'm in a translation for example, Esc. is not working fort cancelling my function, i do a zoom in or zoom out and Esc is useable again.
SOOOOOO STRAAANNNNGE....

I'm working in a group of 11 person and all of them have the same problem. (only with AC20 - AC19 no problem)

How do you restore a file from the backup folder?
I have a corrupt file that cant open and I want to try to restore the backup.

If you are referring to regular AC Projects every time you hit save AC will create a file with the same name but with the BPN extension, these are the ones with the Red Arrow in the icon. You can either rename the extension to PLN and AC will let you open it or in the File->Open window select all files and then choose the BPN.

If it was a crash AC should give the option to open the BackUp once you launch it again.

I don't know if it is linked to my harware configuration but it is so frustrating compared to what it was prior to AC15 ?

Archicad 20 lagging 2D interface

I have a similar problem. After checking various things like mouse frequency and updating video drivers I found the problem but nit yet a solution. I work on two screens, and everything is fine - no lag in 2D panning - but as soon as I have the Organizer palette switched on, the dreaded lag starts. Close that palette and the dreaded lag is gone. Unfortunately I have gotten very used to having that palette always open, so I haven't figured a workaround yet. Hope that helps.

Please bear in mind I have two screens that work in tandem. I have never had any issues with any other versions of ArchiCAD. As a test now I switched on every single palette. Nothing affects the 2D lag except for the Organizer palette and the Photorendering Setting palette. As soon as these two are off, 2D panning is a ok.

Hi All, This problem appears when a combination of ARCHICAD localization settings, OS's language settings and Font Type is not correctly set (taking into consideration that ARCHICAD is not fully Unicode based).
Please set the 'Preferred Language' in 'System Preferences' to Greek (or other preferred language) on MAC OSX and use Fonts which support it's characters. Otherwise there will be "?"(question mark) signs in some parts of the program. The real solution to this kind of problem will appear in AC21.
In the meantime, please see the attached image on how to set Greek language eg. for Mac (for the Windows platform there is already a solution showed below to set the right Font Script Code). With the right setting, the problem with the "?" signs will be gone both for tabs and Schedules. Best, k
