Did you ever figure this out, Heath? Trace background is a nearly unusable feature for me now.
I was about to spring for some more powerful hardware but see that others with faster machines experience the same problem.

Here is an old article, but the advice is the same now. See if this helps at all in tracking down the slow performance. Same article, two different sections:

One of my guys had a new machine that was going slow with version 20.
Info Box would take a couple of seconds to populate.
Turned out he had palettes dragged onto a second monitor.
I dragged them all back and docked them to the sides of the main program window and turned off those palettes he wasn't using.
Restarted the machine and it all seemed to be good again.
Barry.

My guy simply had his navigator undocked and moved to a second screen.
I have also heard that if the Renovation palette is turned on and is free-floating it can cause slowness.
Turn it off if you are not using it.
If all your palettes are currently docked to the side of the main Archicad program window then this will not be the solution to your problem.
Barry.

I´
ve done all kinds of tests so far as this is affecting me and some of our clients. WE settings, video card settings, Windows 10 Visual Display settings. None of them made a difference.
The common theme seems to be nVidia so I suspect it may have to do with their drivers. It may be worth rolling them back pre-June 2017? Still waiting to hear back from GS on it.
Cheers,
Link.

If it is caused by NVidia, does it only apply to PC's? Apple uses a different video card, don't they?

Make sure that Nvidia GeForce Experience program is disabled or deleted if that is installed and running.

Hi Eric, No I have not had any luck and I had a poor experience with Graphisoft tech support trying to fix it, I eventually accepted this as a flaw. I had experienced this problem on 4 different machines. The Graphisoft tech support team had a look at my drawing template, I used a CPU profiler program and still none of the suggestions they gave me worked.
It doesn't matter about the complexity of the file (I have this problem with ghosting 4 walls).
They suggested that it had something with locked layers being ghosted. After I removed all the locked layers from my layer combinations this still occured.
I just tried looking at Karl's suggestion below. The option is located under model rebuild options in Archicad 20, however it didn't solve the problem for me.
I am hoping the issue is no longer an issue in ArchiCAD 21, I just haven't had the time to update and I generally prefer to wait 1 or 2 updates before doing it.
I am sorry I couldn't give you better news on this problem

Hey Katrina,
We will release the same fix for ARCHICAD 20 (and 20 Solo as well) in the next update, later this year. The registry key (and the fix) is only available in the updated version.
Sorry for the inconvenience. |
Looks like that update for AC20 last year never happened, which means I am pretty much crippled on projects still running under AC20. When will AC20 realistically be patched with a windows 10 Creators update DPI fix now?

Go into Control Panel > Programs & Features.
Look through the list for a program called 'Nvidia GeForce Experience'.
If it is there, right click on in and remove/uninstall.
If its not there then you don't have it.
You may have other Nvidia programs and drivers in that list - they should be fine.
Barry.

hey all,
I've been having similar issues lately, general 2d is really slow, deselecting is a second, 2 secs sometimes more. It has been getting really noticeable and annoying.
Have just updated to a new driver released 29th Jan.
Seems to have been a big improvement thus far.
check your graphics card drivers https://www.geforce.com/drivers
ps: disabling geoforce experience has had no effect (for me) before or after updating too, but that's not to say it won't work for others.

This is kind of annoying and stupid problem. We recently bought this configuration:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2 GhZ
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
Video card: GeForce GTX 1070 8GB DDR5
HDD: ADATA SX9000NP
This is an almost 2000 euro computer and it still run like something veeery old. All the recommandations you wrote in the previous replies are tested and theyre was no result at all...my older configuration (6 years older) is doing beetter performence in 2D. There is something wrong and I don't know what. They must be some solution...i'm currently using Archicad 21 with latest updates. Does somebody find an answer for this problem? |
Exactly the same issue here, even after trying all suggested solutions. Currently using ArchiCAD 21 and 20, both having the same problem, even with empty files, when drawing first 2D lines, with all the default factory settings. You simply feel the constant delay, and I am talking about my PC which is powerful. On a few old PCs we have in office, its almost unusable.
If its somewhere in settings, default settings should be set to make the workflow as fluid as possible on any given machine. Maybe there should be profiles that set all the parameters as a bundle, for an old and slow PC or a new 2000eur PC.
I am also working on some old colleague projects in ArchiCAD 12.
I can tell you, ArchiCAD 12 is a BEAST when comparing 2D and 3D navigating and any command reaction speed. It's literally instant, even with very robust projects and even on two 10 year old PCs where our technicians are drawing some routine or less important projects by themselves. I'm aware that AC21 is way more advanced and diverse, but time is still our main resource, especially with minions who don't use any of the advanced functionality.
This is probably a question for another topic, but I'd like a suggestion:
which version would you suggest as the last very fast one, and most stable, for an older PC?
I could transfer minions to draw standalone small projects in it. I'm thinking about AC18, but I do not remember correctly, maybe it should be AC17. As I recall, somewhere over there was when the slowdown happened.

Haven't yet tried this though, I will experiment a bit with this, and update.
Cheers!

I would like to report a bug or glitch which has been happening to my Archicad in most of my projects now. When I double click mouse middle button (zoom to extents), it takes me far far away from the project origin. I can see some lines going nowhere, but they are not clickable. Please have a look at the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTWTqoqiwKM&feature=youtu.be&hd=1
The bug is present now even in my template. Have you got any ideas what may cause this?

There may be something out there. What happens if you hit ctrl+A in the arrow tool. Is anything selected out there?
Another way to check is to select all then right click and hit Zoom to Selection.
Cheers,
